Wednesday 3rd September 2025 - How to start your own organic garden
11.45am-1pm
We have heard many people this season asking the question. I have a garden but how to I start gardening when I don’t have any previous experience? I would like to try and grown vegetables, fruit, some herbs and maybe even a cuttings flower patch, but how do I know what will be successful? And how do I achieve a space that is both productive and functional, as well as relaxing and mentally soothing?
Anneke and Ewa, both experienced gardeners will be in the Biodynamic garden to look at your questions in more depth . Please bring your own dreams and ideas , maybe a drawing or images of your garden.
We're delighted to offer this free event as part of the Open Gate Festival.

An Award Winning Garden
We're just delighted to have received 1st Prize for the gardens sweet peas and broad beans at the recent Aberfeldy Show plus 3rd prize for soft fruit. It's lovely for the garden and the work of the volunteers to be recognised.
We're guessing but we think the sweet peas did well because there were nine different colours, the stems were straight and there were many blooms on one stem. The broad beans looked strong and healthy. The soft fruits that came first had additional soft fruits to ours.
Congratulations to everyone who took part.

We're pleased to confirm the following dates and times so you can pop them in your diary. We hope to add more dates over the summer and into September.
Saturday 20th July - Tea bookings for 10.30am or 12pm
Saturday 27th July - Tea bookings for 10.30am
Thursday 1st August - Sound Bath 11am-12pm and tea after

We can accommodate 14 people for each tea slot and so if you are a group that would like to book a whole slot you'll be able to do that via the booking system. Or if you have another date in mind please email us at [email protected] and we'll see what we can do.
These events are both a celebration of 10 years of the garden and also a fundraiser to cover garden costs. We hope you'll come along and join us. There is a suggested donation of £5 per person for the tea, although if that's too much then please come and give what feels joyous to you. Other events have a suggested donation of £10 such as the sound bath and Universal Dances of Peace. There will also be plants and possibly vegetables available to buy at the garden.

Cherry Blossom in the Garden
In early spring we planted two cherry trees at the garden. We've been thrilled to see their beautiful blossoms. We wanted to share them with you here. We're taking it to mean they are happy and have settled in.
There's lots of activity and preparation at the garden just now. Sowing of seeds, broad beans that are ready to plant out, and some amazing dandelions that the bees are enjoying.
In the summer we'll be running some tea in the garden visits to celebrate 10 years of the Garden. Please keep an eye here for the dates, times and how to get tickets. Just imagine what it might be like for you to come to the garden, select some leaves for your tea and then have a chance to unwind and enjoy the space.

Time with Trees
Friday 25th August 5pm-6.30pm
Ross's Wood, Camserney Farm in front of the Biodynamic Garden
With Brian Anderson, shamanic practitioner
This is the fourth in the series of four mini workshops in each season of the year where we slow down, breath and spend time with trees. Each session is stand alone so if you missed the others please do join this one.
Trees were sacred to our ancestors and offer so much to life as they silently witness all around them. This time we are following Scottish traditions in making a prayer or clootie tree.
This event is part funded by Scottish communities recovery funding. If you would like to contribute then donations to the garden are very welcome.
Booking is essential as spaces are limited, please use the link below to book. If you have any questions please email [email protected].
You can see more of Brian's work at www.oakenleaf.co.uk and www.brianandersontarottherapy.co.uk.

The Silica Preparation in the Garden

Breathing in the Garden
Join Cristie for six breath and movement sessions at the Biodynamic Garden. She'll be sharing coherent breathing which has many benefits including helping with stress, depression and anxiety. When practiced daily coherent breathing helps to bring the body's systems into balance. Cristie is an experienced teacher of yoga, breath and meditation and is excited to be holding space for everyone at the beautiful garden.
We can experience the breath of the garden by simply being there and connect with the living forces: the soil, the plants, the air, the spiritual energy. As human beings we make a gesture of balancing the breath by bringing the biodynamic preparation to the soil.
The practices include gentle movement, breath and meditation and meditation and you can do them either standing or seated.
The classes will be on Friday's at 10am and be for 45 minutes at the Biodynamic Garden. You'll have the option to stay a little longer to enjoy the peace of the garden, have a chat and maybe do some meditative planting or weeding. There are ten places available.
Dates are: 22nd, 29th April and 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th May 2022.
The classes are 60% funded by Scottish communities recovery funding and we ask please could you make a £10 donation to the garden for the block of classes. More information will follow on how to do that when you book.
Spaces are limited for all dates now - bookings are checked twice a week so please book and you'll receive an email confirming if you have a place or are on the wait list.

Event in the Garden - Our Earth's Health is Our Health - 19 August 2021
There's an informal event happening in the garden on Thursday 19 August at 5.30pm
Please bring something personal to share about climate change and your relationship with nature. Or something about your experience when you are in nature/out for a walk.
Dr.Angus Cameron will give a short talk about the ambition to make Aberfeldy the healthiest town in Scotland.
This is based on a few principles: make allotments available to grow your own food, eat healthy, manage stress,
daily exercise, have a loving community around you. Angus himself lives in Aberfeldy and is a Human Givens therapist . We are looking forward to listen to him and there will be plenty of time to ask him questions.
There will be vegan and vegetarian snacks made by Piece, Aberfeldy.
We hope you can join us!

If you follow the Maria Thun biodynamic planting calendar then the days around Easter are not the best to work the soil. Easter Monday would be your first option to plant your potatoes. See also the clip about planting tatties.

From Soil to Slice 2021
Thanks to a grant from the Basil Death Trust the Biodynamic Garden are excited to be taking part in the 'soil to slice' project. It's an initiative from Scotland The Bread and encourages local communities to get more involved with the process from sowing the seeds to making bread.
Our seeds are here and we've just begun preparing the ground at the main growing site at Tombreck. We'll also be sowing at smaller locations such as the biodynamic garden and other local gardens to create a mosaic of growing sites in the area. We'll be sharing pictures as things come together so please do check back. Getting started in gardening biodynamically

Together with The Highland Perthshire Care and Wellbeing Coop we have created some videos giving guidance for anyone who is interested in gardening

Easter Spring 2020
We were asked to bring the cowhorn manure preparation to the land as a healing for soil and people. And to do this now with the illness Covid-19 all affecting us is something we feel the garden can contribute.
We have dynamized the cowhorn manure for an hour by stirring it in water -then we sprayed it on the garden directly.
The soil will feel the benefit from this action. It works as a prevention for pests and diseases for the crops that will be grown this year.
